Gate House and Town Staff can answer questions about day-of arrangements, but are not experts in badge requirements or affiliated officially with Scouting America or Girl Scouts.

Scouting America:
Citizenship in the Community

Citizenship-Community-merit-badge.jpg
This is a yearly offering by the Town of Sykesville to help coordinate assistance with some of the requirements of this badge, and educate young people about civics.

First, come talk with Gate House staff about this badge and its requirements and how the Town of Sykesville can help you understand citizenship in our community!

Then, visit us at the Town House on Civics Day to talk to our elected Town officials, get answers to your questions, and share your ideas about how to make our Town a better place.
2025 updated handouts, FAQ and details of what is at each site and what you need to do at home is found here.

You can find information about our Town Council, including contact information here

Video recordings (available live as scheduled) of Town Council meetings can be found on our Town YouTube channel here.

A useful playlist of content related to citizenship and the community both by Town staff and outside sources suitable for scouts has been created here and will be playing on a loop, Fridays in April at the Gate House leading up to Civics Day, but can be viewed here as well.
